Advantages of purchasing a tent canopy or front extension
You may feel that purchasing an extension for your tent is a waste of money or a gimmick. However there are many advantages to buying a canopy or front extension for the family camper; firstly the most obvious benefit is the extra living and storage space which is gained from adding an extension to the front or side of the tent. Tents can be claustrophobic spaces for children to be trapped in when the weather is bad, an added bit of living space just gives everyone in the family a bit more personal room.
Additionally, the added space can be used to cook in which is a far safer place to cook than in the main interior of the tent especially if you have a sewn in groundsheet. It is not uncommon for people to set their tent on fire, drop a knife and put a hole in the groundsheet or accidentally burn their family tent. In fact, here at OutdoorWorldDirect.co.uk we see this occurring many times in a camping season. Muddy boots and outdoor equipment can often cause problems as they can make the interior of the tent messy, with a canopy you have an area to leave all your muddy or dirty clothing and footwear leaving the inside of the tent clean and homely. Below are just some of the styles of porch and canopy and their differences.
Front Extensions these are like porches, they come with a zip door allowing the whole porch area to be enclosed which stops drafts and adds a bit more privacy to the tent.
Canopies These are open canopies that attach onto the family tent; they have no zip down doorway and are therefore quite open at the front meaning nothing valuable should be left inside of them. They are quite ideal for cooking and for added living space of a warm evening.
