Overview:
A drive-away awning rich in technical features, the Coleman Journeymaster XL is ideal for groups or families wanting a versatile, spacious shelter for their camper van. The Journeymaster has a wealth of features to enrich the camping experience, such as the FastPitch inflatable design, allowing it to be pitched quickly and efficiently without the need for fibreglass or steel poles. Furthermore, the parallel design allows the shelter to sit side-by-side with the camper van, to create a larger footprint and living space, complete with a four-person Blackout bedroom.
The Journeymaster offers full standing height throughout and has a large living space, and an open front porch perfect for cooking, socialising, and helping to provide shelter from the elements. Further to this, the large connecting panel offers the ability to connect the awning to the camper van with ease, and also detach the camper van, so the vehicle has the flexibility to leave the campsite for the day and return to the Journeymaster to reattach the connecting panel.
Ideal For: A robust drive-away awning, which has a 150 Denier polyester fabric, which has great strength whilst also retaining lightweight properties, to ensure the item is suitable for touring camping. Furthermore, an inflatable design ensures this is easy to pitch and set down. Perfect for campers wanting a versatile, drive-away awning ideal for Spring to Summer time usage.
Key Features:
- Fastpitch Air Design: The shelter uses inflatable beams to aid the pitching time of the Journeymaster, allowing it to be pitched within 15 minutes. Perfect for touring due to the ease of set up and set down. The pump is supplied with the camper van shelter and will inflate each beam in roughly 1-2 minutes.
- 150 Denier Polyester: A robust, durable polyester fabric, designed as a middleweight fabric of 150 Denier, ideal for those wanting greater strength, and weather resilience, without the weight of the 420 Denier polyester fabrics.
- Free-Standing: The awning is essentially a tent with a connecting panel, which can be attached or detached from the camper van, to allow the vehicle to be driven off-site, leaving the shelter standing on the campsite.
- Blackout Bedroom: A four-berth Blackout bedroom is included with the product, and offers sleeping space for up to four people. Designed to block out 99% of the daylight,
- Sewn-in Groundsheet: A fully sewn-in, sealed groundsheet throughout the living space creates a more comfortable camping environment, protected from the weather elements. An ideal space for socialising, storage, or sleeping. The groundsheet drops down on the front and side door for pram and wheelchair access, and to prevent a tripping hazard.
- Parallel Fit: Sitting side by side with the camper van, the shelter has a connecting panel to the left-hand side of the awning, which is ideal for those with their habitation door on the UK passenger side, so the van and shelter both face the same direction. The parallel design is favourable as it helps maximise the space on the campsite pitch.
- Large Connecting Panel: To the left side of the shelter, there is a roll-away connecting panel to create a waterproof annex between the camper van and the shelter. The connecting panel, often referred to as a cowl, also has a built-in side door to it.

Fabric Denier |
150 Denier (Polyester)
Details
Denier - a measurement used to determine the thickness of the tent flysheet. It relates to the fibre thickness, or thread counts used. The thicker the fabric, generally the stronger, and more durable the fabric will be. The denier really reflects the lifetime to be expected of the tent, and how quickly, it will be affected by UV Degradation. |

Awning Type |
VW Style Drive-Away
Details
Seasonal: A caravan awning specifically designed for touring, and temporary camping pitches. Ideal for fair weather campers, needing an awning for shorter trips. Usually uses lighter fabrics, for easier portability, and easier pitching. Residential: Ideal for those camping for longer durations, wanting an awning that can be left pitched all season, or for a month or more at a time. Residential awnings usually use heavier weight fabrics, designed to last longer, and not fade as fast in the UV sunshine rays. DriveAway VW Awnings: Designed to go onto VW or similar vans, or motorhomes with the correct attachment height. Can be left free-standing at the site if you need your vehicle to get off-site. Fixed VW Awnings: Reliant on the van or motorhome for the structure of the product. Van cannot be removed offsite once the awning is set up. |

Hydrostatic Head (mm) |
6000
Details
Hydrostatic Head (Tents) – a waterproof rating for technical fabrics measured in mm. The higher the rating the more waterproof the fabric is. A rating of 1500mm is deemed waterproof, but on a tent, look for a rating of 3000 or higher. Measured by the height of water column a fabric weave can take before it begins to “sweat”. “Polycotton” tents will not have a Hydrostatic Head level, as they are not treated for waterproofing. |
Berth |
4 Man
Details
Berth – This shows the number of people that the tent can sleep within the inner tents of a model of tent, in line with the industry standard. Normal procedure is to look for a slightly larger tent, for example, a family of four usually purchase a five or six berth tent, to give added room and comfort. |

Flysheet Fabric |
150 Denier, 135T Polyester PU Coated
Details
Polyester – a synthetic fibre, made from polymer units to create a textile fabric. Polyester is the most popular fabric for tent manufacturing, as it is durable, reliable and lighter in weight. Polyester does not breathe though, which creates more condensation. Polycotton - a blend of polyester and cotton, primarily cotton (usually around 65% cotton / 35% polyester split). Polycotton is a more natural fabric for camping, as it is breathable, far more durable material, reducing the effects of condensation. Offers greater versatility in hot and cold climates. Ripstop Nylon – a durable material used in tents which is strong and repairable due to its Ripstop properties. |
