Overview:
The Vango Rome II 550xl is a popular three-zone tent offering a superb design with full standing height, and space to sleep up to five people. The Rome II has been updated for the coming camping season, offering an inflatable design for an easier pitching experience, and Single Point Inflation. Simply insert the pump onto the front beam valve, and inflate in roughly ten minutes. Each beam can still be individually inflated if necessary, and the intelligent one-way air system ensures efficient pitching. Further to this, the Rome has a side annex built-in, which allows for a neat-and-tidy tent, as it can be used as a storage area, without cramping the main living space. The Rome also has the Midnight Bedrooms, which help to reduce the early morning light, by creating a darker sleeping compartment, ideal for those with younger children.
Ideal For: Families wanting ample living space, dark bedrooms and a lightweight, portable air tent for short-term camping trips throughout Spring to Summer.
Key Features:
- Eco Dura Fabric: Manufactured using recycled bottles, the Rome II is made with approximately 279 plastic bottles, to help manufacture in a more friendly manner for the environment.
- Single Point Airbeam Inflation: The beams can be individually inflated, or inflated from one point on the front of the shelter. Simply plug in an electric pump, peg the tent down, and sit back and allow the Rome II to inflate in roughly ten minutes.
- ColourLok Fabric: Each polyester fabric is prone to fading after UV degradation, but the Colourlok design ensures the tent will not fade to a different colour from the original colour, and helps to protect the lifespan of the tent. Vango describe ColourLok as "sunscreen for your shelter".
- Three-Zone Design: Popular with British folk, the three-zone design caters to our unpredictable climate of run or sunshine, giving ample shelter from the elements, and spacious areas for storage and living space.
- Midnight Inner Bedrooms: Vango's darkest inner bedroom enhances the comfort of the sleeping experience, helping to minimise early morning and evening light. The bedroom is not a true Blackout but will reduce the effects of sunlight in the sleeping compartment.

Details
Berth – This shows the number of people that the tent can sleep within the inner tents of a model of tent, in line with the industry standard. Normal procedure is to look for a slightly larger tent, for example, a family of four usually purchase a five or six berth tent, to give added room and comfort. |
Hydrostatic Head (mm) |
4000
Details
Hydrostatic Head (Tents) – a waterproof rating for technical fabrics measured in mm. The higher the rating the more waterproof the fabric is. A rating of 1500mm is deemed waterproof, but on a tent, look for a rating of 3000 or higher. Measured by the height of water column a fabric weave can take before it begins to “sweat”. “Polycotton” tents will not have a Hydrostatic Head level, as they are not treated for waterproofing. |

Sentinel Eco Dura 70-Denier Polyester Fabric (4000mm)
Details
Polyester – a synthetic fibre, made from polymer units to create a textile fabric. Polyester is the most popular fabric for tent manufacturing, as it is durable, reliable and lighter in weight. Polyester does not breathe though, which creates more condensation. Polycotton - a blend of polyester and cotton, primarily cotton (usually around 65% cotton / 35% polyester split). Polycotton is a more natural fabric for camping, as it is breathable, far more durable material, reducing the effects of condensation. Offers greater versatility in hot and cold climates. Ripstop Nylon – a durable material used in tents which is strong and repairable due to its Ripstop properties. |
Fabric Denier |
70 Denier (Polyester)
Details
Denier - a measurement used to determine the thickness of the tent flysheet. It relates to the fibre thickness, or thread counts used. The thicker the fabric, generally the stronger, and more durable the fabric will be. The denier really reflects the lifetime to be expected of the tent, and how quickly, it will be affected by UV Degradation. |
